The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation (CSF) is pleased to welcome its newest member of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus (GSC): Governor Mike Pence of Indiana. In his first term as governor, he joins the bipartisan GSC representing a state with a long-standing outdoor heritage.
“With almost 900,000 hunters and anglers in Indiana every year, the sportsmen’s traditions are not only culturally important, but are also critical to the health of the state’s local economies,” said Governor Pence. “Sportsmen and women spend over $900 million a year in Indiana on their outdoor pursuits, more than the total revenue brought in by dairy products, which is our state’s fourth largest agricultural commodity. I am honored to join the 30 other member governors of the Governors Sportsmen’s Caucus, and look forward to working with this tremendous network of state executives to promote the interests of America’s sportsmen and women.”
In addition to the Indiana Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus, and Indiana Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus Members, Governor Pence’s membership to the GSC strengthens the representation of the state’s sportsmen and women in the halls of government.
The GSC, founded by CSF in 2009, is a bipartisan caucus of governors who work to protect and advance the interests of America’s sportsmen and women, and advance professional fish and wildlife management. The GSC facilitates communication and information exchange between participating offices in support of policies that promote and advance hunting, angling, recreational shooting, and trapping. Guided by a leadership team of governors and staffed through CSF, the 31-member GSC complements and enhances the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus and the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses in representing sportsmen constituencies from across the nation.
Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
