Maine: Sportsmen’s Caucus Hosts Annual Reception

By Brent Miller, Senior Director, Northeastern States

On February 27, the bipartisan and bicameral Maine Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus hosted its annual reception at the Governor Hill Mansion in Augusta, Maine.

Attendees, including Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation Senior Director of Northeastern States Brent Miller, gathered to discuss Maine’s proud hunting and angling heritage, as well as policy issues affecting Maine’s sportsmen and women.

The Caucus, Co-Chaired by Senator Thomas Saviello, Senator Troy Jackson, Representative Martin Grohman, and Representative Steve Wood (who is also a member of the National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses Executive Council), was formed in 2013. Over the years, it has had a strong, positive impact in protecting and advancing the interests of Maine’s 413,000 sportsmen and women.

CSF would like to thank L.L. Bean; Norman Hanson & Detroy, LLC; and Reynolds American, Inc. for their continued support of this event.

Studies conducted at both the state and federal level have found that the number of hunters and trappers have been on a generally declining trend over the past several decades. To increase recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) of hunters and trappers, which initiative do you think would have the greatest impact?
