Arkansas Celebrates Forestry Day at the State Capitol

Article Contact: Kent Keene,

Why It Matters: Active management activities are critical to maintaining forest health and habitat for many important wildlife species. Well managed forests also support jobs and provide important products through a vibrant forest industry. As such, opportunities to highlight and celebrate forests and their contributions should be appreciated by conservationists across the country.

Highlights:

  • On January 21st, both chambers of the Arkansas State Legislature adopted resolutions to recognize the day as Arkansas Forestry Day at the State Capitol.
  • House Resolution 1009 and Senate Resolution 3 highlighted the importance of the forestry sector, and active forest management, to Arkansas’ economy, culture, and ecosystems.
  • These resolutions align well with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation’s (CSF) recent announcement of its Forestry Advisory Council.

Last month, the Arkansas State Legislature adopted resolutions in each chamber to recognize January 21st as Arkansas Forestry Day at the State Capitol. Senate Resolution 3 and House Resolution 1009, co-sponsored by Arkansas Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus Co-Chair and National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses President Representative Jeff Wardlaw, were adopted in their respective chambers on January 21st, formally recognizing and celebrating Arkansas’ forests and forestry sector in the state.

Arkansas’ forests, which total nearly 19 million acres, contribute seven billion dollars to the state’s economy while supporting habitat for more than 600 species of fish and wildlife. For sportsmen and women, many of our most cherished game species, including deer, turkey, quail, and more, rely on active forest management to provide critical habitat.

The Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation joins the Arkansas State Legislature in celebrating Forestry Day in the state of Arkansas. CSF recently announced the creation of the Forestry Advisory Council to help elevate policies supporting active forest management at the state and federal levels.
